Round Table “Narcotic/Opioid Analgetic Availability for Patients with Chronic Pain
01.07.11 - On 1st July round table was arranged in the OSGF office. Participants were representatives of Coalition Human Rights in Health Care, The Georgian Office of the American Friends in Georgia, The Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs .

The purpose of the meeting was:
- Presenting once more the problem of the availability of pain relievers (opioid analgetics); in particular identification of barriers in the field and their evaluation and analysis;
- Defining essential measures for overcoming above mentioned barriers: who should take this measures and how/when they should be taken to make available pain relievers without any problems for those patients that need these medicines to relieve their chronic pain
Participants discussed existing problems in the filed and human rights aspects of pain relief.

Several priorities were identified for future work:
- Staff training (head doctors, primary health care physician);
- Development of the guideline/protocol; The problem should be tackled in the summer;
- Purchase of morphine pills; the Ministry will deal with this problem by the end of the year;
- The support of the ministry for the optimization of the legislative acts; Mr. Dimitri Kordzaia is working on the draft. He will unveil it at a meeting in September-October;
- Collect information all the time and provide it to interested parties, including the Ministry; Ms. Dea Nizharadze will be a contact person. Working on the public opinion, providing information, studying public opinion and developing a respective strategy for the destigmatization of the field.
